—“The Power of Now” & “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle. These books focus on mindfulness and staying in the present. A New Earth has a nice description of the ego. I wouldn’t call these a light read.
–“The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. Short, simple, and insightful
–“The Ten Second Miracle” by Gay Hendricks-an old but very useful book on understanding what we’re feeling through mindfulness, and effective concise communication
–Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg-very useful, practical, and effective. Great skills for everyone to practice.
—“Conversations With God”(1,2,&3) & “Communion with God”, by Neale Donald Walcsh- may shift your perception of the Divine in a helpful way, and are easy reading
–Handbook to Higher Consciousness by Ken Keyes-an old book with some useful simple ideas
–“The Dark Side of the Lightchasers”, by Debbie Ford-challenges our tendency to think of people as good or bad, and helps you own all of yourself
–“The Dance of Anger” by Harriett Learner-an insightful look at this common emotion
–“Transforming the Difficult Child: The Nurtured Heart Approach” by Howard Glasser-excellent & easy to read for ALL parents and teachers, a study showed effectiveness in a very challenging population of teens in juvenile delinquent centre (I DISLIKE THE TITLE)
–“How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk” & the same title with Teens instead of Kids, by Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish: Excellent and effective parenting skills
–“Kids Are Worth It” by Barbara Coloroso. Good for helping kids develop an internal locus of control, as they are given adequate structure and guidance without excess rules and control
